Preliminary planning for the 2013 KAC State Convention when it will be held in Wichita. D5 will forge ahead, developing ideas at our own grassroots level to put on a convention to rival the very best that KAC has ever offered!

“Tips from Poet Laureati”
   Highlights from this spring’s “Poet Laureati” held in Lawrence were presented by KAC D5 member and
convergence goer Roy Beckemeyer. “Poet Laureati” was a rare gathering of some of this nation’s most recognized and acclaimed contemporary poets. Roy shared with us quite a number of different philosophies and interesting viewpoints about the process of writing as expressed by many of the state poets laureate that Roy was privileged to hear.
   Ideas involving place, writing strategy and inspiration were included in Roy’s slide presentation as he incorporated direct quotes along with photos of the different poets whose sessions he had the opportunity to attend.
   As we approach and reflect on our own writing, Roy’s inside view provides us with food for future thought.

“A First-Hand Account of Poets Laureate Converging on Lawrence”
Pat and Roy Beckemeyer, KAC D-5 members, gave their mpressions of “Poet Laureati: A National Convergence of Poets Laureate,” hosted by Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg, Poet Laureate of Kansas, in March, 2011. Ted Kooser, former United States Poet Laureate, and 20 current and past state laureates met in Lawrence for two days of readings, workshops, sessions and talks, and for a release reception for their book collaboration, An Endless Sky: Poetry from the State Poets Laureate of America.
