April 16, 2011
Fourteen District 2 members, one member each from District 1 and District 3, and four guests met at the William Allen White House in Emporia. The group enjoyed the tour of the house and then spent an hour "on the porch" listening to works read by attendees.
White was nationally known as the editor of the Emporia Gazette. He was a member of Kansas Authors Club from 1905 until his death on Kansas Day in 1944.
The group then enjoyed a meal at Wheat State Pizza. Several members went on to visit the Town Crier bookstore in downtown Emporia before heading home for the day.

Justin Allen, Graduate Research Assistant with the KU Department of Psychology and Research in Education, asked members to create a short writing sample. After that, we shared short pieces with the group.

We extend special thanks to club officers, Marsha Lytle, Diane Palka, and Vicki Julian, for their help with planning 2011 meetings. Tracy Million Simmons was our liaison for the Emporia meeting and Joy Melendy for the Fort Scott meeting. Annola Charity volunteered to spearhead our summer writers' retreat. Also, without our top-notch presenters' willingness to help out the club, this guide would not be possible.
