—Due to member travel.

Sat., June 5, 2010
Meeting was held at Pickney Park, also known as Quentin Park, located in the 6th and Main/5th and Alabama area, Lawrence. Attendees brought food and there there was a read-around, limited to 5 minutes each.
Sat., May 8, 2010
Award-winning children's author Christine Taylor-Butler, was speaker. She focused on “How NOT to write for children!”
Christine talked about her career since leaving Hallmark Cards where she worked as an engineer, where she felt her soul was being sucked out in the corporate world. At The Writer’s Place she met his first editor, through neighbor and fellow children’s author, Lisa Campbell Ernst.
Some of her suggestions were listening to mood music while you write and that you need to laugh and cry over what you are writing or your reader won’t. She said the best writers need to be totally immersed in what they are writing. She discussed how to be professional, how to move into the industry, and why networking is so important.
Some of the sites she suggested include: mediabistro, underdown.org, PublishersLunch, kidlitchat, tweetchat.com, & shrinkingviolets.com
Sat. Apr. 17, 2010 Our April meeting was April 17. Many in D2 do not know what a fantastic resource the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library is for writers. Susie Nightingale, who loves to hang out there, organized a special introduction to the library for us. Members of both District 2 and District 1 met in the main lobby. The Library conducted a tour of the facilities.
After the tour, District Two members joined District One for their monthly meeting. D1 speaker for April was actor/playwright/live performance reviewer/mass media specialist Philip Grecian.

Staff tour of Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library

Sat. Mar. 13, 2010 at the Blue Valley Library, 9000 W 151st St, Overland Park.
Our Main activity was a Read Around. Attendees brought writing samples to read, with a time limit of 5 minutes. The last half hour of the meeting was reserved for committee reports, discussion and planning of 2010 State Convention activities.
Sat. Feb. 13, 2010 at the Community House at Delaware Street
Commons
, 1222 Delaware St., Lawrence.
The first half of the meeting was to meet new members and get acquainted with long-timers--over coffee and breakfast treats and a roaring fire in the fireplace! We have several new members we were eager to meet.
For the second half of the meeting we shared and assessed plans for the 2010 State Convention which District 2 is hosting, and did some nitty-gritty planning and scheduling. We need assistance from everyone to put on a memorable convention in Lawrence, Oct 1-3, 2010. We also value the input of new members as to what information they seek in attending a writing convention.
