Judge: Bill Hagman
said that when he read first place pick it made him cry and he knew he had a winner. He now lives in South Dakota, although he has spent most of his life in SW Kansas. He worked for a small newspaper but is now working on novel, Kendral, which is about a boy who gains more than wealth from his great uncle's estate. He actively creates digital photography collage images and writes poetry ("Jargon Jaunting" series) for his blog.

Judge: Jose Faus is s a native of Bogota, Colombia, and longtime Kansas City resident. He received degrees in Studio Art/Painting and Creative Writing/Journalism from UMKC. He is a founding member of the Latino Writers Collective and serves on the boards of The Writers Place, Latino Writers Collective and Nuevo Eden.
   His writing appears in the anthologies: Primera Pagina: Poetry From the Latino Heartland, Cuentos del Centro: Stories From the Latino Heartland, and in the forthcoming Working: In the Red and the Black from Helicon Nin Press, Raritan, Luces y Sombras and I-70 Review. He is the 2011 winner of Poets & Writers "Maureen Egen Writers Exchange Award."

Free Verse - 95 entries
Judge: Nancy Hubble
listened for the poet's own voice to present itself clearly within the free verse category. She commented on every one of the 96 poems and was emphatic about how good the selection was.
    Nancy has been an instructor at the University of Kansas as well as various alternative and public schools. She has poems published in The Lawrence Journal World, The Wakarusa Wetlands, and in Word Image. Her work includes a CD and chapbook, Dharma Dog. She is also in Begin Again: 150 Kansas Poems and To The Stars Through Difficulty: A Kansas Renga Project.

His songs have been featured on recordings by the L.A. Ramblers and Uncle Dirty Toes. As a performing artist, he has traveled extensively through the Midwest.

Judge: Louise Pezl is retired and lives in South Central rural Kansas. For many years Louise was a member of Romance Writers of America and is currently is a member of Kansas Writers Association (KWA) and Wichita Area Romance Authors (WARA). She is a founding member of Pratt Area Writers Society (PAWS). Since becoming a Master Gardener through the K-State Pratt extension office, Louise writes a monthly gardening article for the Pratt newspaper.

Louise uses a pseydonym for her novel writing: Z. Minor.
