Raj Bajaj presents a gift to Tracy Million Simmons
Tracy was nominated for the merit Award and was approved, unanimously, by the Awards Committee. However Tracy withdrew her nomination, citing her being an awardee in 2008. Prem still wanted to thank Tracy for outstanding work with the KAC Yearbook and newsletter, so the Bajaj's made the gift personal. Tracy with Prem Bajaj

2011 Book Awards:

  • The 2011 J. Donald Coffin Memorial Book Award went to B.D. Tharp, District 5, Wichita, for her book titled: Feisty Family Values. There were 16 qualified entries. This years judge was Jenny Stewart.
  • The 2011 Nelson Poetry Book Award went to Nedra Rogers of Lawrence, Kansas for her book titled: Soul's Night Out. There were 5 qualified entries. This years judge was Marti Mihalyi.
  • The 2011 Karnowski Youth Poetry Contest first place award went to Kate Sorenson of District 5 for her poem titled "War of Sky and Earth." The second place award went to Wren Howerton of District 2 for her poem titled "Foot Soldiers." The Third place award went to Alex Hounchell, District 2, Hoyt, for his poem titled "Reflection."
  • The winner of the 2011 Ferguson History Book Award was Donald J. Blakeslee. The book is Holy Ground, Healing Water: Cultural Landscapes at Waconda Lake, Kansas (Environmental History Series). Blakeslee is a Professor of Anthropology at Wichita State University.

2011 Awards of Merit:

  • Diane Palka —Service Award in coordinating 2011 convention and role as District 2 Treasurer as active member
  • Joann Williams —Service Award in service as State President 2007-2010, former District 2 Presdient, part of the organizing committee for 2011 convention and continuing to serve on state board as past president.
  • Elizabeth Black —Service Award in service to District 2 president and for her role leading the 2010 convention

Chuck BowmanKeynote Speaker: Chuck Bowman is a native of Coffeyville and a well-known Hollywood personality. Producer of The Incredible Hulk ; director of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman ; writer of segments of Murder She Wrote ; and actor in Dragnet are just a few of his accomplishments.
