Return to Top of Page Poetry judge Susan Carman is an award-winning poet and writer, who serves as a board member and poetry editor for Kansas City Voices magazine. Her poetry and essays have appeared in various publications, including Mid-America Poetry Review, Catholic Digest, Coal City Review, The Kansas City Star, the anthology Sacred Waters, and Kalliope, where she was a finalist in the Sue Saniel Elkind Poetry Contest. She received the 2004 Vicki Milliken Bright Poetry Award from the Missouri Writers Guild. Her essay “An Extra Helping of Grace” was a national award winner in Jan Karon’s Holiday Giving Essay Contest, sponsored by Penguin Books. She is a member of the Kansas City Writers Group, the Tuesday Poets, the Missouri Writers Guild, and the Oklahoma Writers Federation Inc. Prose judge Juliet Kincaid received the doctorate from The Ohio State University Her dissertation on fiction in diary form reflects her lifelong love of novels. Juliet taught nonfiction writing and creative writing at Johnson County (Kansas) Community College for more than 20 years. Her fiction and nonfiction have received awards, and she has published poetry, essays, and short fiction, including stories in Red Herring Mystery Magazine and Mystery Time. She is former editor for Potpourri. She belongs to the Kansas City Writers Group and Sister in Crime. Theme poetry judge Irma Hudson lives and writes in Kansas City, Missouri. She is a member of the Kansas City Writers Group. Her poems have been published in Best Times and Kansas City Voices. Theme prose judge Peg Nichols has been a junior high journalism teacher, editor and publisher of a small weekly newspaper, writer of a column of hospital auxiliary news, and a contributor to numerous mediation publications. She is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, The Kansas City Press Club, The Kansas City Writers Group, and the Kansas Authors Club District 2. Her non-fiction book Mediation Survivor's HandBook will be published this fall. Art judge Chelley Lange is an artist, writer, award-winning poet, editor and energy healer. She has had her artwork exhibited by Exposure in Seaside, Oregon, and more than 125 of he songs, stories, articles, poems and drawings have been sung or published in Kansas City Voices, The Kansas City Star. Sparrow, Black Bear Review, Candelabrum (England), The Formalist, and Southern Humanities Review, among others. She was a board member for the Kansas State Poetry Society, a co-editor of Potpourri, and a member of the Kansas City Writers Group. Return to Top of Page |
