Birding by Boat in
the Peruvian Amazon
Peru has very high biodiversity, in part
because of its wide range of habitats.
Temporal as well as geographic habitat variations in the Amazon region, such as
water levels changing by 30-50’
over the course of the year, have resulted in its “terrestrial” inhabitants, humans included, adapting to at
least a semi-aquatic lifestyle. Learn about some of the wet and dry season contrasts
in both natural and urban settings, & see
an overview of the experiences and
scenes of a guided
birding tour in flooded forests – with a
sampling of exotic birds and other fauna.
Presenters are Daphne Fautin, Professor of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at KU, a marine biologist specializing in sea anemones, and Bob Buddemeier, retired senior scientist at the Kansas Geological Survey, and former researcher/teacher at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the University of Hawaii.
