1. The Library will be open Monday through Sunday at hours set by the Director. The Library is closed for these national holidays: New Year's Day, President's Day, Good Friday and Saturday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The Library also will close at 12:00 the day preceding Thanksgiving, and New Year's Day.
2. Kansas residents 14 years and older may receive a library card on presenting two forms of correct identification, one of which has the current residence address, and upon signing an application to observe Library regulations. Children 5 to 14 must be co-signed by a parent or legal guardian. This may act as one of the identifications.
3. Non-residents of Kansas may purchase a one-year card individual or house-hold card for $5.00.
4. Each client will receive a library card carrying a personal registration number. The card must be presented each time materials are checked out. Under special circumstances determined by the Director, the card may be kept at the Library for the client. This may included, but not be limited to, small children, homebound, family cards, etc.
5. The client is responsible for materials checked on his or her card. Loss of the card must be reported immediately, or the client will be held responsible for materials checked on it. The cost of replacing a card is $1.00
6. A Kansas Library Card may be issued to clients on an annual basis if the client is a member in good standing with our library and meets the criteria for the card.
7. Violating the rules of the Library may result in the cancellation of a library card, and materials restricted to in-house use only.
8. Guidelines and rules for the use of Library computers are posted and must be read and agreed to before registering for computer use. Children under 18 must have a permission card signed by their parent or official guardian. Visitors may present photo ID to use the computers
9. Borrowers may borrow 10 books at
a time, with a limit of 3 in each non-fiction classification. Periodicals,
audio books, CD's and cassettes are limited to 5 per card. Videos, DVDs,
and CD-ROM's are limited to 2 per card. Borrowing periods are:
3 weeks use: Books, cassettes, CDs, audio-visuals, pictures
1 week use: Periodicals, videos, DVDs, CD-Roms, vertical file
1 day use: Reference materials, equipment
or current magazine
Items may be renewed one time if no reserves are on
the materials. Materials with reservees must be returned and cannot be renewed.
10. Reserves may be placed on checked-out materials The client will be called or e-mailed when the material is available. Clients must pay postage if a reserve notice is mailed.
11. Fines are $.10 a day per item for overdue materials. A maximum fine of $18.00 per item will be charged on materials. Interlibrary loan items are charged $.50 a day if overdue. A maximum fine of $18.00 per item will be charged. All fines must be paid before anything else can be checked out, including computers. In-house use of materials will not be affected.
Audio books, videos, discs, and cassettes should be returned to the circulation desk. A $.50 fine will be assessed if non-print materials are returned in the book drops.
12. Clients will be notified of overdue materials. Postage for mailed notices will be added to fines. Materials not returned after three (3) noticed may be picked up, and a fee charged for this service. Materials that are three months overdue will be considered lost and full replacement costs will be assessed. The client will be liable for all expenses incurred if the City Code or the Library Materials Protection Act (KSA 21-3702) is invoked.
13. Damaged beyond reasonable wear, or loss of materials, will be charged to the client. Charges are for damage to library property, and do not constitute a purchase of damaged items. A processing fee of $3 will be charged for each lost or damaged item in addition to the current replacement cost for each lost or damaged item.
14. Materials may be used in the library, but cannot be borrowed without a library card. Books may be reserved for use within the library for special needs, and room checked at the circulation desk. Copies are $.10 each, or $.25 for 11x17 copies.
15. Any person who is disruptive or verbally abusive to clients or staff, or who exhibits inappropriate behavior for a public venue will be escorted from the library.
16. Children left at the library and unattended by parent or guardian are not the responsibility of the Library or the staff and may be considered a child in need of care.
17. Smoking in the building, or the use of smokeless tobacco in the building is prohibited by state law.
18. Food and drink are permitted, meeting room and staff areas. Drinks in bottles with screw tops, adn drinks with lids are permitted in the library areas. No food or drinks will be permitted around any computer.
19. Animals are not allowed in the building, excepting companion dogs for the disabled, and animals used in library programs.
20. The meeting room may be scheduled for use at the circulation desk. Rental charged are $15 per use, or $7.50 to CPL. Foundation members. Rules for its use are posted within the room, and must be observed.
21. Fax service is provided at a cost of $1.50 for the first page, and $.75 for each succeeding page. Faxes can be received for $.25 per page.
22. Temporary exhibits may be accepted for display in the library. Limited space prevents the acceptance of permanent exhibits that cannot be used as a part of a circulating collection or historical research archives.
23. Donations of materials to the library will be accepted on the condition that the Library has full control of the materials. Any materials not acceptable for the Library collection will be disposed of at the Director's discretion.
22. Roller blades, skateboards, and
roller skates may not be used inside the library. Bicycles should
be left at the bicycle rack. Bicycles found in the lobby or on the
porch will be removed.
