Freeport, located in eastern Harper [HP] County about six miles south of US-160, is "the smallest incorporated city in the U.S.A. having a bank."  It is nearly a ghost town now but the Freeport State Bank, chartered January 7, 1902, and the grain elevator across the street are still in business, and it still has a Presbyterian church with a membership of about 60.  Every year the townspeople gather in the simple frame church building to celebrate Christmas by decorating a tree and having a concert.  The church is in the National Registry of Historic Places.
