It's a small, pretty town organized around a town square and park. A stone and bronze marker in the square tells the story of Fort Jewell, a sod fort built to protect the citizens from an Indian raid. Several beautiful old stone and brick buildings grace the downtown. The bank, shown here, is a perfectly maintained example. Jewell is blessed with great places for outdoor recreation. There's a state fishing lake is a short distance west of town Lovewell reservoir is a few miles north, and Waconda reservoir is a short distance to the south. |
