History
In April of 1868, Joseph Douglass found the area of the four streams would be a commerical haven for a small store which would cater to the steady stream of pioneers moving westward. He and Sam Shaff, a distant relative, pitched a tent on the banks of the Walnut River and made plans for the town to be named after Douglass.
