Poetry of Kansas

Beneath the Willow

You, who loved the spring,
And fain would have lived
With the dripping trees in the April rain,
Do you, lying there,
Hear the raindrops caress
The coarse sands that form your pillow?
And do you trail rested hands
In the sad pools, beneath the weeping willow
That heads your grave?
