Poetry of Kansas

The first impulse born,
Renewed each morn.
The last impulse relinquished,
In life never extinguished.
Uplifting in the deepest mire
To ideals and to stations higher.
Having lost in a palace great
Sinking to the lowest state.
Springing up eternal,
Not a visible external.
Making all mankind its slave,
Reaching beyond the grave.
Facing death, yet giving
Aspirations to eternal living.
Nothing tangible, and yet
Very essential to one is it.
