Poetry of Kansas

Influence.

I spoke; and my word was carried
   On the mobile, quivering air,
To the heart of a fellow mortal,
   As an influence foul or fair.

I did; and my deed was carried
   On the shimmering ether wave
To the heart of a fellow mortal,
   And it help or hindrance gave.

'Twere well if an evil saying
   Were denied the air-waves' speed;
And the ether were unwilling
   To picture a harmful deed.
