Poetry of Kansas

Alcohol.

That which steals the tender love and mercy
       from the heart of man,
That which fills the mother's bosom full of
        bitterness and woe,
That which makes of noble family a base,
        ignoble clan,
That, of all existing evils, is the greatest
        that I know.
