Poetry of Kansas

Owe Nothing.

"Owe no man anything!"
This will a blessing bring,
And make you gladly sing,-
Life bears a merry tune,
      Happy indeed, I am.
For to some fellow get
Once thoroughly in debt,
You will most surely fret.
If not most sadly sweat
      While in his hungry jaws.
Remember then the rule,
From so divine a school,
It never pays to fool,
Or make yourself a tool
      By this getting into debt.
