Dewey S Main was born in Cattaraugas County NY., April 22, 1835. He enlisted as a private in Company A of the 85th Infantry NY., on August 14, 1862 at Olean NY . His brother William Oscar was born June 13, 1839 & enlisted October 7, 1861 in Company A, 85th Infantry. Dewey's regiment was on garrison duty at Roanoke Island when Company A was captured at the battle of Plymouth. Dewey went on to fight several other battles, was admitted to the hospital at Fort Schuyler, Ny and was discharged shortly after. William Oscar was taken to Andersonville prison on April 30,1864 and died on October 31, 1864 of Scurvy. He is buried at Andersonville Prison at Americus Ga. His grave # is 11679. Dewey died at Salina, Ks June 7, 1911 of a stroke. He is buried at Gypsum Hill Cemetery in the GAR section. (William Oscar Main was listed as F.O. Maine on the prison records) Genwrite

He served under W.T.Sherman in the 98th Illinois volunteers, homesteaded in Kansas, Smith county and He was a colorful figure in the area, buffalo hunter, indian fighter and dualist. There must be multitudes of Holmes' related to me he fathered 18 children. Emery B. Holmes"
Abraham Rice, Buried at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Stafford County, Kansas. born September 14, 1834, in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Enlisted in Company D, 101st Pennsylvania Volunteer Regiment. Died March 26, 1895. Abraham and his twin brother, Isaac, were captured at the battle of Plymouth, North Carolina in April 1864. They were sent to Andersonville Prison. Released in September 1864. Moved to Charleston, South Carolina where Isaac Rice died on September 21, 1864. He is buried in Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, South Carolina. Abraham went on to Florence Prison and later paroled. Returned to Bedford County and later moved to Kansas. Abraham's Parents were Jacob and Elizabeth (Miller) Rice. Abraham married Minerva Snyder Rice on Apr. 5, 1866. Minerva born March 16, 1842, Died Nov. 25, 1933.
