Benjamin Franklin Harvel died at Baxter Springs, Kansas, Tuesday and was buried in Hope cemetery here this morning. Mr. Harvel lived in this city and other parts of this county for several years, moving to Baxter Springs from here two or three years ago.
Mr. Harvel was born in Madison county, Illinois, May 19, 1836. He would have been 79 years old in May. At the opening of the war he enlisted in Co. D, 61st Illinois infantry, was discharged for disability and after recovering he reenlisted into 114th Illinois.
He was married four times, the last time to Mamie Longhauns at Erie about fifteen years ago. She survives him. Five children also survive him. The remains arrived from Baxter Springs this morning, and Rev. Davis conducted the funeral services at the M. E. Church.
John Harvel, of this city, is a brother of the deceased.
