Organized in 1873.  County seat, Holton.  Originally Calhoun, in honor of John C. Calhoun, of South Carolina, changed in 1859 to Jackson after Andrew Jackson, seventh President of the United States.

William G. Cutler's History of Kansas, first published in 1883, tells about early Jackson County.
