On this site in 1885 pioneers of
this locality sought protection
from the Indians.
This fort was not built of logs and
stone but was even more primitive
made of trench and sod walls it
served the need of a people in
their fight for survival.
Many took their possessions and
fled. But this brave group of pioneers
stayed to fight and build. To the
memory of these we dedicate this
marker.
