Daniel James McCabe Ramsey came from Rockcastle Co., KY with
cousins and a wagon train of family to Greene Co., Missouri. He and
his brother were orphaned by the deaths of his parents about
1861-1865. He worked as a farmhand for Dr. and Mrs Thomas Jasper
Watts who lived near Rogersville, MO.. There he met the sister of Mrs Watts, Mary Jane Hedgpeth. They
were married in 1871 in Greene Co., MO.. They stayed in the area and
lived most of the time in Christian County which is just south of
Greene Co., MO.. There they had six children, two of which died very
young. They had a hard life there as farmers and never owned a piece
of land. They moved around a lot trying to clean up land and
establish a place to live. Finally in 1899 they came with two wagons to Sumner Co., KS..
There they remained until the death of Daniel in 1913. Mary went to
live with family until her death. The last place they lived was west
of Ashton. They had four living children, Lenna Fogg who remained in
Wellington during her lifetime; Myrtle Wartick who also lived there,
C. Ulman who lived near his parent's farm west of Ashton and John who
lived in Wellington until moving to Wichita about 1921. There he
remained until his death.
