Lookup Volunteers

Feel free to request a look-up from any of the volunteers listed below. Please remember to put SHAWNEE COUNTY, KS LOOKUP in the subject line of your request to insure the message is not overlooked or accidently deleted. Please be as specific as possible and please honor any conditions established by the volunteers. If you request a lookup, don't forget to thank your volunteer for their time! If you have information you are willing to share or references you can do lookups in, please let me know! Please note that requesting a lookup is NOT the same as submitting a query. Please submit queries on the Queries Page You are welcome to submit both lookups requests and queries as often as you wish.

GHOST TOWNS OF KANSAS: A Traveler's Guide, by Daniel Fitzgerald: Susie Hastings will be happy to do lookups in this book for people doing historical research on old Kansas towns Topeka City Directories, 1950, 1954, 1959, 1971, 1980, 1991; please send email to Chris Hollenbeck for a lookup in these books. "Who's Who In and Around Topeka 1926"; please send email to Chris Hollenbeck for a lookup in this reference. Burials at Emanual, Pleasant Hill, and Richland cemeteries in Monmouth township; transcribed from the stones and updated in 2000. Please send email to Joanie Hrenchir for a lookup in these cemeteries. Burials at Topeka State Hospital, Leon Fundenberger; these records include names of approximately 1150 persons buried circa 1860 to 1950 at the Topeka State Hospital insane asylum, most of which are buried in unmarked graves. Topeka City Directories prior to 1926: Topeka City directories back to the 1870's are held by the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. Requests for lookups are welcome but must be sent via U.S. Postal Service (i.e. "snail mail") to: Jeanne Mithen, Topeka Room, Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, KS 66604. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your request. Obituary Index: You may use the new online index or you may send lookup requests via U.S. Postal Service (i.e. "snail mail") to: Obituary Lookups, Adult Services Department, Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 SW 10th Ave., KS 66604. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your request. This is an ongoing project and more years will be available: Lookups are currently available for any obituary listed in the online index and for the following years: 1906-mid 1930's (from the various newspapers of Topeka issued during this time and includes all persons listed in paper.) 1971-1988 Topeka residents only (For some reason the library only indexed those individuals who resided in the city of Topeka at time of death for this time period. 1989-present (all persons listed on obituary pages of Topeka Capitol Journal). Susie Hastings will do lookups in the following Topeka area yearbooks. Please put "Topeka School Register Lookup" in the subject line of your request. Topeka High School Class of 1944: 30 Year Reunion Directory containing names and addresses/deceased notations. Also contains a list of classmates who married other classmates and a "lost" list. Washburn University Bulletin: Announcements 1950-51 & register for year 1949-1950: includes student roll and degrees granted. Washburn Municipal University of Topeka Directory, 1949-1950: contains student names, year in school, and address; as well as names of faculty with addresses and courses taught.
