CRIMINAL ACTION NO. 2. LARCENY. ATTORNEYS. Geo. W. Black, For Plaintiff. V.R.A Greene, For Defendant. ===== On the 16th day of January, 1879, personally came E.W. Thompson, before me B.F. Meredith, a Justice of the Peace, in and for Topeka Township, and County of Shawnee, and made written complaint under oath charging, that on or about the 10th day of January, 1879, in the County of Shawnee, and State of Kansas, one Ralph Reed, did unlawfully and feloniously take, steal, and carry away, one gold watch, of the value of fifty-five dollars, the property of him, the said E.W. Thompson. January 16th, 1879, Warrant issued to Isaac White, Constable. January 16th, 1879, Search Warrant issued to Isaac White, Constable. January 16th, 1879 Subpoena issued in behalf of State, for A. Granger, P. Farmer and R.A. Merchant. January 16th, 1879, Warrant returned and filed, endorsed in substance, executed by arresting the within named Ralph Reed and have him before the Court. January 16th, 1879, Search Warrent returned and filed, endorsed in substance, executed by searching said place where I found the watch described. January 16th, 1879, Subpoena returned and filed. January 16thm 1879, the State being present by Attorney Geo. W. Black, and the Defendant in person and by his Attorney, V.R.A. Greene, Esq., and the complaining witness being present in person, proceedings were had as follows: Subpoena issue in behalf of Defendant for V.A. Grant and T. Ramp. Subpoena returned and filed. The following named witnesses were sworn in behalf of the State, A. Granger, P. Farmer, R.A. Merchant. T. Ramp and V.A. Grant, sworn in behalf of Defendant. After hearing the testimony and arguments of the counsel, and it appearing that said offense was committed, and that there is cause to believe that the said Ralph Reed was guilty of its commission it is adjudged that he do enter into a recognizance in the sum of One Thousand Dollars, for his appearance at the next term of the District Court of Shawnee County, and that in default of such recognizance, he be committed to the Jail of said County, until discharged by due process of law. Witness my hand this the 16th day of January, A.D. 1879. B.F. MEREDITH, Justice of the Peace. January 17th, 1879, Ralph Reed Defendant, having failed to enter into the recognizance required was this day committed for trial to the Jail of Shawnee County, by order of commitment signed by me, and directed to Isaac White, Constable. Certified Transcript of 7 folios, together with all papers in foregoing action transmitted to the Clerk of the District Court of Shawnee County, September 28th, 1879.
