In the fall of 1863 J. R. Mead, of Towada, Kansas started a trading post on a site which is now Wichita. It was four years later, in 1867, that Sedgwick County, Kansas was formed from Otoe and Hunter Counties. The first U. S. Federal Census taken in the county was the 1870 census. Midwest Historical and Genealogical Society is proud to present this on line viewing of the Butler County, Hunter County, Marion County, Otoe County and Sedgwick County, Kansas Federal Census.
