Midwest Historical and Genealogical Society will host the 24th Annual Conference of the Kansas Council of Genealogical Societies June 11 and 12, 1999. The conference headquarters is Four Points Sheraton, 549 South Rock Road, Wichita, KS (SW corner of Kellogg (Highway 54) and Rock Road). The conference will feature noted speaker, James L. Hansen, Reference Librarian of the Historical Society of Wisconsin, Madison, WI.

Friday, June 11 has a full schedule of mini-sessions taught by genealogists from across the state. You should find subjects that will interest you but please take special notice of class size limitations and get your requests in early.

6:30 Awards Dinner and Speaker, James L. Hansen - "Genealogy Disease- A 
          Survival Guide"

James L. Hansen, F.A.S.G., has been since 1974 the reference librarian and 
genealogical specialist at the Library of the State Historical Society of 
Wisconsin, where he assists several thousand researchers a year in their
genealogical and historical research. He has taught beginning and advanced
genealogical research courses over Wisconsin's Educational Telephone Network
and has published a handbook for an introductory genealogical research
correspondence course offered by University of Wisconsin Extension. Among 
his other publications are articles on a variety of genealogical topics, a
bibliography of territorial Wisconsin newspapers, and a guide to the library
in which he works.
He is a nationally known speaker, having lectured on genealogical topics 
around Wisconsin and around the country at the National Institute on 
Genealogical Research at the National Archives, and at numerous conferences
in the U.S. and Canada. He was the 1994-1995 president of the Association
of Professional Genealogists, and in 1995 was named a fellow of the 
American Society of Genealogists.
