| Obituary of ELSIE FRANZEN SWINHART |
| Elsie Franzen Swinhart, 90, died June 1,
2000, at Parkside Homes, Hillsboro. Born Aug. 7, 1909, at Hillsboro, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Hein) Franzen. She had lived in Oklahoma, but the family returned to Hillsboro in 1920 after her father developed cancer. After his death, each of the seven children began to work. She was married to De Swinhart Sept. 7, 1931. The couple had one child, Mary Ann. She was a homemaker, worked on the farm, and formerly sold Avon products. During later years, she and her husband enjoyed traveling. He died Feb. 9, 1985. She then moved to Hillsboro. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Madsen and husband, Earl, Peabody; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and sisters Florence Friesen and Evelyn Koop, Hillsboro, and Ruby Jane Couts of Hemet, Calif. Services were held Friday afternoon at Hillsboro Memorial Chapel with Pastor Larry Timm officiating. Burial was in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody. |
