| Obituary of ROLAND F. VOGEL, JR. |
| Roland F. Vogel Jr., 60, died May 26,
2000, from complications following heart surgery at Via Christi-St.
Francis Medical Center, Wichita. A former trooper with the Kansas Highway Patrol, he resided at Chanute. Born June 13, 1939, at Marion, he was the son of the late Roland and Leah (Hopp) Vogel. He grew up in the Marion community and graduated from Marion High School in the class of 1957. He also attended Neosho Community College and the University of Kentucky. From 1957 until 1961 he was in the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in Salina and on Greenland. At the time of his death he was employed by Chem-Trol of Wichita. He was with Kansas Highway Patrol from 1965 through 1976. He later served as grounds superintendent of Safari Golf Course, Chanute. A member of First Christian Church, where he served as an elder and on other committees, he also was a member of the Southeast Kansas Planning Commission on criminal justice matters. He was married to Sonja M. Sanders Sept. 13, 1959, in Marion Christian Church. She survives. Other survivors include their son, Douglas, of Chanute; daughter, Debra K. Finley, Chanute; brother, Warren Vogel, McPherson; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services were held today, Wednesday, at First Christian Church, Chanute, with the Rev. David Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Marion Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in his name with the church youth organization. |
