| Obituary of IVY MAY HESS |
| Ivy May Hess
Ivy May Hess, 95, retired proprietor of a variety store, died Wednesday, September 10, 1977, at Peabody Community Living Center. She was born March 18, 1902, in Peabody to Daniel Myers and Elizabeth Stevenson Hess. She was a lifetime Peabody resident. She worked first as a sales clerk in the Roy Smith variety store and then she became Dr. Wendell Tate's receptionist until his death. She and her sister, Gladys, became proprietors of a Ben Franklin store until they retired. She was a lifetime member of the Peabody United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher for several years at the church, as well as a member of the Rebekah Lodge for more than 50 years, serving as chaplain. She was a resident of Peabody Community Living Center for the past several years. She was preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Gough, in 1993. Funeral services were September 13 at Baker Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Priest officiating. Memorials have been established with the Peabody United Methodist Church or Peabody Community Living Center, in care of the funeral home. |
