| Mrs. Elizabeth Hess
Mrs. Elizabeth Hess passed away at her home in Peabody on October 17 at 2:00 a.m. She had been ill for several years. She would have been 90 years of age her next birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel meyer Hess. Mrs. Hess was born in Pittsburgh, Penn. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Stevenson. She married Daniel Hess September 18, 1890 at Morrellville, Penn. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home south of Peabody in 1940. They came to Peabody in 1893 and lived here the rest of their lives. They were members of the Evangelical Church in the early days. When it disbanded, they became members of the Peabody Methodist Church and Mrs. Hess was active in its work until her health failed. To this union were born seven children, all surviving; Mrs. Jessie Atkins, Roy Hess, Don Hess, Miss Ivy Hess and Mrs. Gladys Gough of Peabody; Harry Hess of Burns and Lester Hess of Ft. Collins, Colo. Twenty-seven grandchildren 43 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was famous for her beautiful quilting, having done quilting for her family and also for many other people. She often said that she had quilts in every state in the union. Services were held at Baker Funeral Home October 19, with interment at Prairie Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons. They were Jack Sebree, Raymond Hess, Richard Atkins, Donnie Hess, Paul Atkins and John Hess. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Hess, Dan Hess, Clifford Hess, Albert Hess, Bill Atkins, and Jim Hess. Mrs. Elizabeth Hess Services Here Monday Services were held here Monday, October 19, for Mrs. Elizabeth Hess, 89, who passed away early Saturday after many years of illness. Services were held in the Baker Funeral Home with Rev. Giles Stagner officiating. Interment was in Prairie Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Atkins, John Hess, Jack Sebree, Raymond Hess, Richard Atkins and Donnie Hess. Music was provided by J. M. Neuhauser, Paul Baker, H. H. Brown, Ernest Holler and Mrs Willard Jewell. Mrs. Hess was the mother of Ivy Hess, Mrs. Dick Gough, Mrs. C. E. Atkins, Roy and Don Hess, of Peabody and Harry Hess of Burns. She has nearly 70 grandchildren and great grandchildren. |
