SHARON PERRY

Sharon “Sue” Perry, Leavenworth, 69, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Providence Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

She was born May 7, 1940 in Atchison, the daughter of Elbert B. and Mary Elizabeth (Simpson) Tandy. She married Joe Perry on May 26, 1973, in Lansing, KS. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, playing dominoes, spending time with her family, and working. She was employed by the U.S. Government at Ft. Leavenworth, KS as a Security Specialist. Sue retired in November 2007 with 35 years of service.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Perry, of the home, two daughters Tonja Russell of Topeka, Tricia Gallagher and husband Scott of Tonganoxie, one sister Barbara McCoy and husband JC, six grandchildren Joseph, Amanda, Ashli, Patrick, Bret and Preston and one great granddaughter Ryleigh.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Kenneth Tandy.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St. Leavenworth, KS. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the funeral chapel.

Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Lung Association.

WILLIAM JOSEPH HUFFMAN

William Joseph 'Joe' Huffman, 50, of Leavenworth, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Cushing Hospital. Joe was born February 9, 1959 in Schwaebish-Gmuend, West Germany. He was the son of LTC (Ret.) Clyde & Sarah F. Huffman, Leavenworth. He and Carey A Dix were married January 30, 1982 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Leavenworth.

Joe is survived by his wife and their daughter, Nina Renee Huffman of Olathe. He is also survived by his parents, his sister, Mary E. (& Jim) Woodward, Topeka, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ralph & Toni Dix, Jr., two nieces . Jennifer Woodward, Denver, Colorado, and Dondi Dix (& Jerry Roue), Overland Park, one nephew, Andrew Woodward, Topeka, and one great-nephew, Mason Roue.

Joe was beloved son, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He graduated from Pleasant Ridge High School in 1977 and enjoyed a long career in business and retail management, including working for Jim Walter Papers in Kansas City, MO. He then became part-owner and manager of Dondi's Ice Cream Parlor in Leavenworth. He followed that experience working several years for Dix Office Supply before becoming the owner/operator of Dix Furniture, which he was managing at the time of his death.

Joe's favorite hobbies centered on the many cars and trucks he owned over the years. He enjoyed bird hunting and loved spending time in the great outdoors. He enjoyed being with family as well as socializing with his many friends and acquaintances. Joe will be remembered for his happy laughter, his willingness to always help out, his love of good stories and the many big-hearted kindness he extended to family and friends alike.

Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2009 and the funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2009. Both will take place at Davis Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Lansing, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

James C. “Jim” Shockey

James C. “Jim” Shockey, 51, of Leavenworth, passed away, Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family.

Jim was born Feb. 2, 1958, in Long Beach, Ca., the son of Paul and Joan (Ramey) Shockey.

He is survived by his wife, Sharie of the home; his son Joshua (Whitney Jaster) Shockey; his daughter, Tavi (Jeremy) Wydicks; his mother, Joan Shockey; his brother, Paul David Shockey; his sister, Jodi (Jim) Slapper; his mother and father in-law, Laurie and Mike Doty; his brothers in-law, Rob (Carrie) Racicot, Kevin Racicot and Michael Doty Jr.; his grandchildren, Jenna, Connor and Caleb; and his nieces and nephews, Brent, Alyssa, Breanne, Heath, Kalyn, Jill and Sarah.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Paul Shockey; and his sister, Paula (Shockey) Johnson.

He was a loving husband, son, father, brother and true friend. For 33 years Jim worked for Hallmark Cards where he made many lasting friends with his knowledge, expertise and good-natured personality. He will be greatly missed by his fellow employees.

Outside of work Jim was a member of the Leavenworth County Club where he could often be found playing rounds of golf, one of his favorite sports. He was very athletic throughout his life. He loved watching, Tony Stewart in the Sprint Cup Series; the KU Jayhawks; and the Kansas City Chiefs. He played, softball, volleyball, bowled and fished throughout his life. During the summer, he could be found enjoying friends and family at the lake or on a canoe trip. Spontaneous, with good sense of humor, great smile and contagious laugh, he was the life of the party. Jim was probably best known for being the captain of his throne and the commander of his remote. Jim Shockey was loved by many, will be missed by all and always remembered.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the funeral home. Internment will follow at Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to the Lincoln statue.

MARY VERNA JACKSON

Mary Verna Jackson, 79, of Lansing, KS passed away peacefully on November 7, 2009 at her daughters home where she had been lovingly cared for during her lengthy battle with Alzheimers Disease.

Mary was a beautician, with a salon in her home in Lansing for many years. She also worked at Hallmark Cards, Leavenworth, after she retired from the Beauty Salon.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband and soul mate John Edward Jackson and her son Vance Adair Jackson.

Survivors include her beloved daughter, Verna Ann Jackson Worrall (Michael) her grandson, Clinton Michael Worrall (Sara), Edwardsville, KS, great-granddaughter, Brooke of Edwardsville, Ks., grandson Casey Worrall (Cindy Campbell), Lansing; and grandson Mitchell Adair Jackson (Amanda) of Bolivar, Mo.

Mary loved attending to and always working hard on her home and lawn. She was extremely dedicated and loved beyond words her many, many hours of volunteer work in her community. This includes the Lansing School Systems, Lansing Alumni Association, Calvary Baptist Church, Lasing Historical Society, Lansing Library and many more.

She faithfully attended water aerobic classes for many years at the Leavenworth Riverfront Community Center, Mary was a member of the Skyway Lanes Friday afternoon Senior Bowling League at Skyway Lanes. Mary with determination and conviction was always there for anyone and everyone who needed a helping hand. No questions asked.

Her character, spirit, smile and heart was the greatest gift to her family, community, Church, neighbors and friends. She loved them all with open arms. And let me not forget she cherished our flag and country, and with God through family she too did Bless America!

Prior to her husbands death she loved and enjoyed their many travels, to include a trip to Germany (Europe). She loved fishing and hunting with her husband John.

Yet, another priority for her was her love and support of her grandsons and great granddaughter, their school, sports activities and life endeavors and so very much more. She will be in their hearts forever and keep watch over them.

She was very proud that she, her late husband John and son Vance, her daughter Verna, son-in-law Mike, grandson Clint, daughter-in-law Sara, and Casey had all attended and graduated from Lansing High School where you may find all their class photos displayed on the walls of Lansing High School.

As she fought valiantly, her battle with Alzheimers in 2009, a few of her many last glorious achievements was the happiness and pride of seeing her youngest grandson, Mitchell Adair Jackson, Bolívar, Missouri married to beautiful wife Amanda. Mitch became a Park Ranger for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, continued his family farming, as well as his college studies at Missouri State University. Grandson Casey successful with his privately owned and managed lawn care business. Grandson Clint, his wife Sara and daughter Brooke blooming into a happy, beautiful, and fun filled home and family.

Mary traveled in the summer of 2009 with her daughter on an Amtrak vacation to beautiful Santa Fe, N.M.

Also in 2009 Mary was a host grandmother in tandem with her daughter Verna (a host mother) to seven Northern league K.C., KS T-Bone Baseball players (2008 Northern league Champions) in her and her daughters home. She attended 100% of all the T-Bones home games. The host players, Jim, Craig, Weston, Neb, Cody, Justin and Nate loved and respected her and always took time to find her among the fans cheering, clapping and dancing.

Sincere and heartfelt appreciation to everyone at Sunflower Health Care Hospice, Lansing. Especially Mary's personal team of Caregivers.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Davis Funeral Chapel.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Davis Funeral Chapel.

Burial will follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to any of her beloved entities. NELLIE M. MARTIN LAMONT

Nellie M. Martin LaMont passed away on February 10, 2010 at the County Care Nursing Facility.

She was born in Easton, Kansas, July 28, 1915, the daughter of John T. and Mattie Fay Bristow Martin, who preceded her in death, along with her husband Everett, her daughter Phyllis Wagner, her son-in-law Robert L. Wagner, one brother Charles T. Martin, two sisters, Dorothy Glynn, and LaVerne Ready.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Merlin Wagner of Easton, Kansas, 2 step-daughters, Betty Heintzelman, and Cassandra French, both of Leavenworth., 5 grandchildren, Robert Stephen Wagner of Leavenworth, Deborah Sue Wagner Diercks, of Racine, Wisconsin, Mark Wagner of Lansing, Kansas, Michelle Zimbelman, of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Julie Cook of Leavenworth. Eleven great grandchildren, Matthew Wagner of Kansas City, Missouri, Katie Aufdemberge of Leavenworth, Ben and Jon Wagner of Lansing, Chad and Brian Diercks of California, Jason Diercks of Wisconsin, Melissa Wagner of Olathe, KS., Christopher Wagner of Odessa, Texas, Michael Cook of Leavenworth, and Megan Zimbelman of St. Joseph, Missouri, four great great grandchildren, Emma Jean and Charley Aufdemberge of Leavenworth, Fiona Anne Diercks of North Carolina and Eli Matthews Diercks of California, one niece Linda Hutchinson of Allison Park, Pennsylvania, 2 nephews John Walter Glynn of Atherton, California, and Charles W. Martin of Harrisonburg, Virginia and also survived by several cousins..

Funeral will be at Leavenworth Baptist Church, 803 S. Broadway, Leavenworth, Kansas, on February 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation on Sunday February 14, 2010, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Leavenworth Baptist Church. Interment following funeral at Easton Cemetery, Easton, Kansas. Memorial contributions to Leavenworth Baptist Church or the Easton Cemetery

JEFFREY A. PERRY

Jeffrey (Jeff) A. Perry, Leavenworth, Ks passed away July 7, 2010 in Leavenworth, KS.

Jeff was born December 13, 1975 in Leavenworth, the son of William R. and Myra R. (Portwood) Perry. He is survived by his parents, his children, Darian and Damien Perry, wife, Jennifer Perry, two sisters, Lisa Snodgrass and husband John and Delaina Sanders and husband Michael and numerous aunts, uncles, and other family and friends.

Jeff is preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert R. and Harriett R. Portwood and William and Mary Perry.

Jeff graduated from Lansing High School in 1994, he then worked as a Diesel Mechanic for the Murphy- Hoffman Company in Olathe, KS for the last 14 years.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 P.M Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held 10 A.M Monday, July 12, 2010 at the funeral chapel. The Rev. Lance Coffman of Wallula Christian Church will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cemetery.

The family suggest memorial contributions be given to the Darian and Damien Perry Children's Fund in care of the Davis Funeral Chapel.
