Services for Richard O. Carey, 85, formerly of Ozawkie, will be at 1 p.m. today, March 6, 2002, at Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa.

Mr. Carey died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Eisenhower Veterans Administration Medical Center in Leavenworth. He was born March 21, 1916, in Lawrence, the son of Elvin Aldis and Julia (Barnes) Carey. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and had retired as a casino maintenance man in Reno, Nev.

Survivors include a son, Cecil Angelina Larison, Oskaloosa, and a brother, Bill Carey, Washington state.

Services Keefe Wickey, 69, Kenbridge, Va., were held March 11, 2002, at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home in Amelia, Va. Mr. Wickey died Thursday, March 7, 2002, in a single-engine aircraft accident that occurred shortly after take-off.

Burial was in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Ameilia, Va., with military honors.

Mr. Wickey was born Feb. 17, 1933, near Jarbalo, the son of Walter and Marion (Murphy) Wickey. He attended Jarbalo Grade School and graduated in 1950 from Tonganoxie High School.

Mr. Wickey was a Korean War veteran.

Survivors include a son, Paul Wickey; and a sister, Jeanne Henderson.

Services for Ruby Velma Agnes Coffman, 84, Tonganoxie, were Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie. Burial was in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Mrs. Coffman died March 11, 2002, at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. She was born June 8, 1917, in Lawrence, the daughter of Oliver and Ida Jane (Daniels) Garner. On May 27, 1937, she married Allan Aaron Coffman in McLouth. He died Jan. 5, 1992.

Survivors include two sons, Curtis Coffman, Ottawa, Kan., and Joe O. Coffman, Tonganoxie; three daughters, Mavis M. Garvin, San Antonio, Texas, Joan Gardner, Winchester, and Sue Fangohr, Sunrise Beach, Mo.; one brother, Raymond Garner, Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Elvia Ousdahl and Alberta Snow, both of Lawrence; 18 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.

Services for former Basehor resident Mary Louise Downing, 89, Lansing, were Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Basehor. Burial was in Holy Angels Cemetery, Basehor.

Mrs. Downing, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. She was born Oct. 4, 1912, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Michael E. and Mary Johanna (Wenzel) Kelly.

She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1929. She was a member of theChamber of Commerce in Basehor. On April 20, 1938, she married Milton M. Downing in Kansas City, Mo. He died Aug. 28, 1988.

Survivors include a son, Bernard Downing, Wichita; two daughters, Joanne Aaron, Leavenworth, Loretta Kirchhofer, Wakarusa; two sisters, Ruth Sigman and Gladys McDermott, both of Shawnee; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Mike Downing.

Services for Daisy June Boone, 82, Kansas City, Mo., will be at noon Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Tonganoxie.

Mrs. Boone, a former Tonganoxie resident, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at her home. She was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Leavenworth County, the daughter of Louis Eugene and Nellie Mae (King) Bell.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tonganoxie. She was a retired wool presser for Ross Miller Dry Cleaners in Kansas City, Mo.

Survivors include two daughters, Carrie Mae Miller and Jacqueline June Jenkins, both of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Louis Bell, Denver; five sisters, Marie Jarrett, Tonganoxie, Sarah Alexander, Denver, Jane Carter Ikerd, Kansas City, Kan., Rosie Farrell, Bonner Springs; and Violet Fern Pettis, Kansas City, Mo.; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.

Kathleen M. Fink, 54, of rural Leavenworth, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at her home. She was born Jan. 7, 1948, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Ned and Josephine Sherley Rush. She was a 1966 graduate of Lansing High School. She married Paul Fink on July 2, 1966, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. He survives at the Home. She was a member of the St. Joseph of the Valley Catholic Church and the church Altar Society. She loved making quilts, sewing and staying active in many projects in her area and the church. Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Marie Ogawa, Hopkinton, Mass, and Lorie Ann Hayes, Lansing; four brothers, Lonnie Rush, Winchester, Robert Rush, Kansas City, Kan., Terry Rush, Lansing, and Ed Rush, Kansas City, Mo.; and three sisters, Sherley Baragary and Loretta Murphy, both of Leavenworth, and Patricia Fink, Lansing. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2002, at the St. Joseph of the Valley Church with the Rev. John Ayang, celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel after 2 p.m. Sunday with a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish rosary recited at 7 p.m. Memorials are requested to the Hospice of Leavenworth or St Joseph of the Valley Church.

Service for Maselle Darleen Hodges, 92, Tonganoxie, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie. Burial will be in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Mrs. Hodges died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Tonganoxie Nursing Center. She was born Nov. 15, 1909, in Grant City, Mo., the daughter of Norris E. and Essie (Hall) Murray. She was a member of Tonganoxie Christian Church and Rinda Chapter No. 82, Order of Eastern Star, Tonganoxie.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry Eldridge, McLouth, Hal Eldridge, Manhattan, and Wayne Eldridge, Basehor; two daughters, Myrna Custer, De Soto, and Rita Jordan, McLouth; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

A son, Myron G. Eldridge, died Aug. 19, 1985.

Services for John H. Searcy Jr., 80, Leavenworth, were Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 15410 Leavenworth Rd., with burial in Holy Angels Cemetery.

Mr. Searcy died March 18, 2002, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. He was born Feb. 8, 1922, the son of John and Nellie E. Martin Searcy.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He had been employed with three railroads and retired from the Burlington Northern after 35 years of service.

He was a member of the church, the Veteran of Foreign Wars, the Knights of Columbus, Wyandotte Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and the clown unit of the Abdallah Shrine. He had been a master mason since Aug. 13, 1943. And he served the Boy Scouts of America in various roles in Illinois and Missouri for more than 40 years.

He was an honor guard for President Truman's funeral and at President Eisenhower's Tomb in Abilene.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye, in 1991 and his second wife, Wilma, in 2000.

Services for Lloyd L. DeHoff, 79, Tonganoxie, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2002, at the Congregational Church in Tonganoxie. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Mr. DeHoff died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Tonganoxie Nursing Center. He was born Nov. 21, 1922, in Tonganoxie, the son of Vernon and Hazel (Osborn) DeHoff.

He was a building contractor, a member of First Congregational Church, Henri Masonic Lodge 190, AF&AM, former Patron of Chapter 82 O.E.S., President Tonganoxie Cemetery Association, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9271, all of Tonganoxie; Abdullah Shrine, Kansas City, Kan, and Scottish Rite Bodies, Lawrence. He was an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II.

He married Donna Ruth Denholm on Sept. 7, 1947. She died Jan. 1, 1999.

Survivors include a son, David W. DeHoff, Whitney, Texas, and two granddaughters.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, April 10, 2002, at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.

LUCILLE S. BALLEW

Lucille S. Ballew, Lansing, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Broadway Heights in Leavenworth. She was born in Garnett, the daughter of Luke and Lucille Holloway Bell.

On July 26, 1954, she married George H. Ballew in Hastings, Neb. He preceded her in death April 18, 1996.

She and her husband, George Ballew, owned and operated the Western Auto Store.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Leavenworth.

Survivors include two nephews, Robert Keil, Bates City, Mo., and Joe Keil, Midland, Mich.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth. Burial will be in the Mount Muncie Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Christian Church or the American Heart Association.

SALLY KENYON

Sally D. Kenyon, 57, of Fairmount, Kan. died Friday, July 26, 2002 peacefully at her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her beloved husband and friends.

She was born the daughter of Ray and Jean (Jones) Steed on Sept. 9, 1944 in Leavenworth.

She married Ron D. Kenyon 40 years ago on June 10, 1962 in Lansing. He survives at the home.

Sally had many hobbies. She loved growing flowers and traveling. She collected dolls and made new doll clothes for them. She donated of 100 dolls every year to the Salvation Army for their annual Children's Christmas give away.

She is survived by her husband Ron, mother, Jean Steed, nephew, Eric Cruce and great-nieces, Haley and Catie Cruce, all of Lansing.

Her father preceded her in death.

A visitation will be held today from 5-7 p.m. at the Bleden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapels, in Leavenworth. Friends may call after 1 p.m.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Leavenworth, in care of the funeral home.
