Joe F. Jenkins Sr.

1913-2001

Services for Joe F. Jenkins Sr., 88, Linwood, were scheduled for 11 a.m. today, Oct. 10, 2001, at Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan., with burial in Highland Park Cemetery.

Mr. Jenkins died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Providence Place. He was born May 14, 1913, in Kansas City, Kan., where he lived for 62 years before moving in 1975 to Linwood.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in the Military Police before being honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant. He rode in the Washington parade when President Eisenhower was inaugurated as a member of the Sheriff's Posse.

He was owner and president of Guarantee Abstract Company, now Guarantee Title.

At the time of his death, he was associated with First American Title Insurance Company.

He was active in the American Land Title Association, president of the Kansas Land Title Association in 1948-49 and was named the association's title person of the year in 1979. He was a past member of the state's Abstractors Board of Examiners, serving as its chairman for more than a decade. He also was active with the Kansas City Kansas Chamber of Commerce, serving as its president and being named its citizen of the year. He served 15 terms as chairman of the Wyandotte Planning Commission; was a member of the board of the American Royal, a board member of Security Bank; a member and president of the Board of Public Utilities; and a member of Rotary Club.

His first wife, Orpha (Root) Jenkins, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (Breidenthal) Jenkins of the home; a son, Joe F. Jenkins, Tonganoxie; a granddaughter; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Ussery

1928-2001

Services for Mary Ussery, 72, Everest, Kan., were scheduled for today, Oct. 10, 2001, at Powhattan United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rich Souter officiating.

Graveside services are planned for 2:30 p.m. today at Sunset Memory Gardens in Leavenworth.

Mrs. Ussery died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Heartland East Hospital, St. Joseph, Mo. She was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Vernon R. and Etta J. Moore Williams.

She grew up in the Kansas City area, and later graduated from Lawrence High School. She worked during World War II at Sunflower Ordnance Ammunition Plant near De Soto. She also worked in the offices of various businesses during her career.

She was active with the Powhattan United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the church. She also as active with the Farmers Market in Atchison. She was on the board of Tri County Nursing Home for six years. In her early years, she volunteered as a candystriper for the American Red Cross.

Her first husband died in 1995.

She married Edward Ussery on Feb. 19, 1988, at Miami, Okla.

They lived north of Everest since 1992. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include six daughters, Charla Strick, Camdenton, Mo., Betty Ellis, Leavenworth, Fonda Shaw, Shawnee, Arlena Garza, De Soto, Margaret Oelschlaeger and Carol Hammons, both of Tonganoxie; three sons, Edwin Ussery, Kansas City, Kan., and Danny and Charlie Ussery, both of Tonganoxie; four sisters, Ann May, Hamlin, Kan., Marie Carlson, Lawrence, and Thelma Merriman and Sybil Morris, both of Hiawatha; 19 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Gary Lincoln Scott

Betty Louise Scott

Memorial services for Gary Lincoln Scott, 61, and Betty Louise Scott, 69, rural Tonganoxie, were Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Metropolitan Church of the Nazarene, Kansas City, Kan. Graveside services were Saturday, Oct. 13 in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall, Mo.

The couple died Oct. 7, 2001, at their home. Leavenworth County sheriff's officers say Mr. Scott shot and killed his wife, before turning the gun on himself.

Mrs. Scott was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Harlow W. and Nellie Wanetta (Winner) Reynolds. She worked for Macy's department store and Nazarene Publishing before devoting her life to being a homemaker.

Mr. Scott was born Feb. 28, 1940, in Marshall Junction, Mo., the son of George L. and Mildred E. (Dollard) Scott. He was a farmer and a truck driver for Yellow Freight and Wilcox.

Both were members of Metropolitan Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include a daughter, Shannon E. Roussy of France; three grandchildren; and Mr. Scott's brother, David O. Scott.

Alberta Jean Riddle

1939-2001

Private memorial services for Alberta Jean Riddle, 62, Tonganoxie, are planned for Thursday, with the Rev. Rick Lamb officiating. Cremation is planned.

Mrs. Riddle died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at her home. She was born Jan. 16, 1939, in Atchison, the daughter of Earl and Violet (Wiggins) Folsom.

She was a homemaker and a member of West Haven Baptist Church in Tonganoxie.

On Aug. 3, 1957, she married Charles W. Riddle in Kansas City, Kan. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Scott and Jason Riddle, both of Tonganoxie; a daughter, Kelly Jean Reneau, Lawrence; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A son, Brian Earl Riddle, died in 1966.

Danny W. Clark

1962-2001

Graveside services for Danny W. Clark, 39, Auburn, were Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Mr. Clark died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, in Topeka. He was born May 12, 1962, in Lawrence, the son of Ed Clark and Nancy G. (Cox) Asher. Mr. Clark was an auto mechanic.

He married Melissa K. Miskimen on Dec. 22, 2000. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his mother, Missouri; his father, Tonganoxie; a son, Derek, Lawrence; two stepsons, Tyler and Ryan Green, both of Auburn; a daughter, Kayla Clark, Lawrence; two sisters, Deborah McHugh, Lawrence, and Dodi Koontz, Hays; and grandparents, Ezra and Florence Warren, Lawrence.

Ransley McNulty

1926-2001

Military graveside services for Ransley McNulty, 75, Tonganoxie, were Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Tonganoxie.

Mr. McNulty died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital in Bedford, Va. He was born Aug. 4, 1926, in Grantville, the son of Thomas C. and Clara (Husser) McNulty.

He was a farmer and retired rural mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Tonganoxie. He was a World War II and Korea veteran who served in the U.S. Navy. He was an active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9271.

He married Marilyn June Miers on July 11, 1951, at Leavenworth. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include a son, Tom McNulty, Lawrence; a daughter, Vicki McMullin, Tonganoxie; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services for Robert Michael Richardson, 46, McLouth, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie, with the Rev. Scott Berry officiating. Burial will be in Eagle Cemetery.

Mr. Richardson died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. He was born Dec. 27, 1954, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of James and Florence (Williams) Richardson. He moved to McLouth in 1988 from Kansas City, Kan. He was a member of the McLouth Volunteer Fire Department.

On Aug. 24, 1973, he married Phyllis J. Budy in Kansas City Kan. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Amanda Adams, Menlo, Kan., Sarah Richardson, Grain Valley, Mo., and Alicia Richardson, McLouth; his father and stepmother, James and Ruth Richardson, Sunrise Beach, Mo.; his mother, Florence Richardson, Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers, James Richardson, Birmingham, Ala., and Tom Richardson, Kansas City, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Quisenberry Funeral Home.

Services for Grace D. (Mason) Bridges, 95, Boonville, Mo., will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at the Jarbalo United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Fall Creek Cemetery in Jarbalo.

Mrs. Bridges, a former Leavenworth resident, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Riverdell Nursing Center in Boonville. She was born April 4, 1906, in Jarbalo, the daughter of William and Maude (Trackwell) Somers.

She was a member of Jarbalo United Methodist Church.

She married Albert Lee Mason on June 26, 1924, in Jarbalo. He died on July 17, 1978.

She married Loren E. Bridges on Nov. 20, 1983, in Leavenworth. He died on May 15, 1985.

Survivors include two daughters, Alberta Lee Heintzelman, Leavenworth, and Janice Baragary, Boonville; three sisters, Beulah Lenahan, Tonganoxie, Lois Schwinn, Ottawa, Kan., and Wanda Chauvin, Lawrence; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. A son, Donald Leo Mason, died earlier.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church, sent in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, 66086.

Services for Eava Joyce Berry, 73, Kansas City, Kan., were Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Alden-Harrington Chapel in Bonner Springs. Burial was in Bonner Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Berry, a former Linwood resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at her home.

She was born June 20, 1928, in Warsaw, Mo.

She was a charter member of the Bible Baptist Church in Bonner Springs who most recently attended Liberty Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Cecil Berry, of the home; nine sons, Dennis Berry, Topeka, Ronnie Brooks, Grain Valley, Mo., Michael Brooks, Keller, xas, Patrick Berry and Terry Berry, both of Lawrence, Steve Berry, Edwardsville, Glenn Berry and Keith Berry, both of Basehor, and David Berry, Bonner Springs; six daughters, Elaine Berry, Eudora, Kathy Berry-Lee, Linwood, Connie Penic, Brandon, Fla., Hope Huggins and Barbie Mathia, both of Kansas City, Kan., and Karen Henson, Elsberry, Mo.; one sister, Lorene Zumalt, Warrensburg, Mo.

Services for Marvin Linvel Green, 66, Tonganoxie, were Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, with Marvin Green II officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Mr. Green died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. He was born May 31, 1935, in St. Paul's, N.C., the son of William Bosman and Fannie B. (Cagle) Green.

He was a retired chief hospital corpsman for the U.S. Navy who was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

He married Edna Eileen Turner on Aug. 6, 1955, in Las Vegas. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Marvin Green II, Goose Creek, S.C.; and five daughters, Daryll Nottingham, Puyallup, Wash., Susan Chambers and Kriss Tully, both of Wichita, Nancy Cuba, De Soto, and Barbara Hornberger, Colorado Springs.

Graveside services for Lillian Nadine Rogers, 81, Basehor, were Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Maywood Community Church in Kansas City, Kan.

Mrs. Rogers died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center, Tonganoxie. She was born Dec. 16, 1919, in Grain Valley, Mo.

She was a member of Piper Baptist Church.

Her husband, Jack Rogers, died on Feb. 22, 1994.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Saint, Kansas City, Kan.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
