LINDNER, UHRIG posted by Helen Jackson on Thursday, March 31, 2005

I am wondering if anyone has access to the 1865 census index. I am looking for Josephine UHRIG, born in Illinois. She married Charles LINDNER about 1867-1868.
I'm also looking for a death date for Christine Elizabeth LINDNER, born Germany in 1812. I find her in the Leavenworth Directories (she was a midwife) until the late 1870's.
Thank you

GUILES posted by Anthony (Tony) Boos on Saturday, July 23, 2005

I am researching a George Alson Guiles, b. 20 Dec 1861 - Brackney, PA.

The 1880 Federal Census for Lansing, Del Twp, Levenworth County, Kansas lists - Guiles, Geo - age 18 - WM - laborer - born PA residing in Lansing, Levenworth County, Kansas serving time in the State Penitentiary. Source> Year- 1880; Census Place- Lansing, Leavenworth, Kansas; Roll| T9_385; Family History Film- 1254385; Page- 119A; Enumeration District- 147; Image- 0624.

I believe this person to have been my great grandfather: George Alson Guiles who moved from PA / NY to Empire, Ellsworth, Kansas with his parents Jeremiah Guiles and Phobe [Webster] Guiles shortly following his father's return from the Civil War.

It is my understanding that the Levenworth Penitentiary was first opened circa 1871 and was mainly for military and State of Kansas prisioners and not taken over by the Federal Gov't until circa 1895 when the new buildings were started.

Are there any records available from this early time period of the prison, especially the 1880 - 1882/3 time frame, as my great grandfather turned up back in NY State circa 1884 and married my great grandmother on 24 Aug 1884 in Owego, NY.

For the 1880 census I had also found a George Guiles, also born in PA, also age 18, also a farm laborer residing with his parents and siblings in Empire, Ellsworth County, Kansas.

This has me thinking that George was counted first at his parents home in 1880 and later at the Levenworth Prison after reporting for serving his sentence.

I would love to know if this was in deed my grandfather and if it was what he was serving time for.

Thank You... Tony Boos

CAMPBELL posted by Poppy Casper on Sunday, July 31, 2005

Looking for information regarding the parents of Campbell, Arther (Arthur) Frank, born on 8 Aug 1876/1877 in Leavenworth, KS.

Census reports from 1930, in Fremont County, Idaho, where he settled, list mother's place of birth as England. Father's place of birth is listed differently on subsequent census years as either USA or England.

WWI Draft Card lists closest relative as "Mrs. Nellie Hart" in Nebraska - probably a sister.

I have descendant information (I'm the great-grandaughter of Arther Campbell) and will share non-living descendant info.

Thanks in advance!
