From November 1917 to April 1918, all "alien enemies" were ordered to register with the U. S. Marshal in their county of residence, by order of the President. All of those aliens were any of those persons who had - for whatever reason - not been naturalized. These records are available at the Kansas State Historical Society and the National Archives Central Plains Region. KSHS has only film, which is no longer available on ILL for interlibrary loan. The Archives have the originals as well as the film.
Beyond the very obvious the forms asked for: ship and arrival, children's names and birth dates - and in the case of females, which husband; parents name and address; siblings name and address; who was sympathetic to the enemy; full set of fingerprints; a photo and signature; a physical description (at least in the eyes of the person filling out the form); relatives serving in the enemy forces; occupation and employer. The files contained any request for change of residence - where they came from and where they wanted to move to.
The National Archives Information Locator (NAIL) is the NARA's on-line database of selected finding aids and digitized documents. The Central Plains Region has provided The Kansas Council of Genealogical Societies with information for indexing 116 selected multipage digitized Enemy Alien Registration Affidavits, 1917-1921 and 5,812 affidavits without digitized copies attached to them.
