BIRK posted by Allen Robertson on Wednesday, December 3, 1997

I am researching the Valentine Birk Line. Valentine emigrated from Germany in 1879. After the death of his first Wife, he married Amalie Fischer. This marriage produced 10 children. Their youngest son, Carl, was my wifes grandfather. I know a great deal about Carl, but I'm looking for information on the other children and on Valentine. He died in 1897 from blood poisoning.

They want to come back up there again, and try again to look. Maybe online can help. Found the Despain genealogy online, but no one has Indiana info. I am fairly new at online, but not genealogy. Online is as addictive as regular genealogy. Thanks again, Coffey Co. has a nice section. Very well done, if Ican figure out what every thing means. I'll try to find copies of their obituaries. I wonder if Jehiel PROUT died in the Civil War?? If you could send me any names that you know about. Special...I just can't give up with only that little bit of information. There's a bride's index in the back, and I got lucky as this entry mentions the parents' names of the bride: POLAND Charles F. 40 Waverly, KS b. Mercer CO., ILL farmer son of Joseph Poland & Susan Deeds m. 1 Aug 1906 Burlington, KS by Rev Wm C. McCurdy to Rebecca GREEN 30 of Waverly, KS b. Waverly dau of Isaac Green & Eliza Despain I suspect that the transcribers guessed at the father's name.
