Obituary of WILLIAM M. "BILL" SONTAG, SR.
William M. "Bill" Sontag, Sr., 93, of Derby, died Saturday, April 22, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, at First Presbyterian Church in Derby.

He was born March 9, 1907 on a farm outside of Latham to Louis S. and Theodosia M. (Thompson) Sontag. He attended a one-room school in Latham as a child and graduated from the Pittsburg State Teachers College.

He was a lifetime midwestern Stainless Steel Cookware Co. franchise owner and cattle rancher. He served during World War II in the United States Army where he achieved a rank of Master Sergeant. He served four years in China and India.

He is survived by two sons, David Sontag of Wichita and William Sontag, Jr. of Derby; four daughters, Greta Sontag of Cripple Creek, Colo., Theresa Sontag of Derby, Charlotte Strouse Dallas and Stephanie Haney of Derby; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver Sontag; and three sisters, Hazel Baldwin, Louise Doxsee and Ida Faye Sontag.

A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church of Derby. 

Contributions may be sent in care of Smith Mortuary in Derby.
