DENTON, FIELD, JENNINGS, KILMER, MOREY

Root_Digger@wow.comFrances YoungFri, 29 Nov 1996 12:39:43 -0500
My great-grandparents were early pioneers in Bourbon county. My maternal grandmother's father, Lewis William MOREY, came from Rhode Island and settled in Bronson, KS. He married Amanda KILMER 28 Nov. 1867, was a justice of the peace and post master at various times. Amanda A. (KILMER) MOREY ran the Bronson house in Bronson. Lewis fought with the volunteers in the repression of Price's raid. They are buried in the Bronson cemetery. My maternal grandfather's father, Stephen FIELD, came to Fort Scott after serving in the Illinois Volunteers during the Civil War. He married Sarah (DENTON) KIRBY, a widow, either 26 Sept. or 28 Oct. 1869 in Uniontown. There son, Claud FIELD (my grandfather) married Jeanette MOREY 5 Oct. 1896 in Iola, KS. Sarah (DENTON) FIELD, after her husband's death, married Thomas JENNINGS. Family history has always said that Thomas JENNINGS was the father or uncle of the inept JENNINGS Brothers gang who robbed trains in Oklahoma in the late 1890s. I have read many articles and books about Al JENNINGS, who ended up in prison at one point with the noted author O. Henry. However, I have never been able to prove a link between Al or his brothers to Thomas JENNINGS. It would be nice to be able to prove that Al and his brothers were Thomas JENNINGS' sons because that would make them my grandfather's stepbrothers.

ELLIOTT, ORLANDO, STONE

jemc@frii.comJohn Elliott McDermid Tue Oct 8 20:38:13 1996
I would like to locate the place of burial and the cause of death for Sarah Mahala (STONE) ELLIOTT. She married, lived, died in Bourbon County. She was married to Alfred ORLANDO Elliott in Ft. Scott in 1869, appears in both the 1870 and 1880 census of the Freedom Township in Bourbon County, and died on January 28, 1883 in Ft. Scott. Her last two children both died before the age of two and their graves can be found in the Osaga Cemetary about a mile west of Fulton. Her parents are also listed in the 1880 census as living in Fulton. I can not locate either Sarah's nor her parents graves. There are two other "Stones" in the cemetary but I cannot discover how or if they are related. They are also listed in the 1880 census. I would like to hear from anyone with information or suggestions on how to get this information.

CAMPBELL, WRIGHT

I am sure glad to see someone take the lead in keeping track of Bourbon Co, KS. My GRGRGrandfather, Wilson Woodruff Wright, moved to Bourbon Co in 1859. They settled on 80 acres one mile north of what is now UnionTown. I believe that Wilson helped establish UnionTown. Lawrence Russell Wright still owns the homestead and they raise Jersy Milking cows.
Russell's son, Gary, lives close to me in Sacramento, CA. Gary has done a great deal of family research and put his information into a book called The History of Kansas.
For now, I am looking for information on the following surnames: WRIGHT, CAMPBELL
