|We know that Carl Sprague died in California in the 1950's, and have his death certificate. The period of his life from 1900 to 1920 is the mystery we are trying to solve. He seems to have been moving around between Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. He had made the Cherokee Strip Run in 1893, secured a claim, farmed it and proved it up, then sold it in about 1900. The next twenty years are uncertain. The marriage license in Greer County, OK was a surprise--it was a marriage (and subsequent divorce in 1912) that our family was unaware of. As I said before, we do not know if Carl and his bride (Hulda McMillian) returned to Kansas or took up residence in Oklahoma. I have been unable to find either of them in the 1910 federal census in any state.
I have wondered how difficult it would be to search the Comanche and Barber County deed records to determine if he had bought land in either of those counties sometime between 1900 and 1909?

My name is Donald Carl Sr. I reside in Washington, Pennsylvania. I am the great grandson of Edna O Smith Buchanan. |
In doing research of our family tree, on the Smith side, it was noted she had a 1/5 share of an 800 acre parcel of land in or near Medicine Lodge, Ks. in Barber County. The homestead was known as Virginia Burns Smith Farm.
I am looking for any information on this track of land and any information on Edna and her siblings, and if this land of which I speak is still in the smith Family. The article which we got this information was dated in October, 1950. We are not sure if this was still a part of her estate when she died in 1953 or not.
