In 1935 they retired from active farming and came to Russell to establish their home at 207 Kansas Street. Here also, she became a part of the community life and with her cheerful disposition, a smile for everyone and her interest in her church, her family and home, together with her creative ability in art, knitting, and other home crafts, she held the esteem and friendship of all who came in contact with her.

She was blessed with good health most of her lifetime until she suffered a stroke about 6 years ago, and for the past 3 1/2 years she had been in the hospital.
