Stevens County, KS

History

Organized August 3, 1886. County seat Hugoton. Was named after the late distinguished statesman Thaddeus Stevens.

Thaddeus Stevens (1792-1868), Congressman from Pennsylvania, was famous for his fierce abolitionist beliefs.
