Sedgwick county is located in south central Kansas. The county has a strong agricultural economy and is home to numerous aircraft industries, earning the title for Wichita of "the airplane capital of the world." The Big and Little Arkansas rivers meet in downtown Wichita, the largest city in the county.

History

Organized in 1870. County seat Wichita. In memory of John Sedgwick, United States army, Major-General of volunteers, killed in battle, May 9, 1864, at Spotsylvania, Va.

William G. Cutler's History of Kansas, first published in 1883, tells about early Sedgwick County.
 
There is a section on Sedgwick County in the book Kansas: a Cyclopedia Of State History by Frank Blackmar (1912).
