History

Organized June 3, 1886. County seat, Dighton. In honor of Senator James H. Lane, of Kansas.

The harsh conditions that greeted early settlers is descibed in the humorous nineteenth century poem, The Lane County Bachelor.

The Special Collections of the Ablah Library at WSU contain historical images of Dighton and Healy.
